Luchtbrug Jordanië – Soedan afgebouwd

Defensie en Buitenlandse Zaken zijn gestopt met het evacueren van Nederlanders uit het door oorlog geteisterde Soedan. Het tweede C-130 Hercules transportvliegtuig met daarin materieel is zojuist geland op Vliegbasis Eindhoven. Een civiel vliegtuig met militairen en medewerkers van Buitenlandse Zaken landde vanmiddag al in Eindhoven.

De 2 C-130’s van de luchtmacht werden vanaf Aqaba ingezet voor de luchtbrug tussen de Jordaanse kustplaats en het Afrikaanse land. Een toestel was donderdag terug op de thuisbasis. Het tweede toestel stond stand-by om eventueel nog evacués uit Soedan op te halen, wat dus gisteren inderdaad is gebeurd. Toen heeft Defensie nog 40 Nederlanders en 19 Amerikanen uit het Afrikaanse land geëvacueerd.

Nederland heeft in totaal ongeveer 250 mensen geëvacueerd met defensievluchten, onder wie zo’n 100 Nederlanders en circa 150 mensen van 18 verschillende nationaliteiten. Daarnaast hebben andere landen ongeveer 130 Nederlanders geëvacueerd via de lucht en over land.

Waardering

De evacuaties werden in goede banen geleid door militairen van de luchtmacht, het Korps Mariniers, de Brigade Speciale Beveiligingsopdrachten van de marechaussee, een medisch team van Defensie en een Snel Consulair OndersteuningsTeam van Buitenlandse Zaken.

Defensieminister Kajsa Ollongren prijst de betrokken collega’s. “Ik heb buitengewoon veel waardering voor het werk van onze ingezette militairen ter plaatse en voor de teams van Defensie en Buitenlandse Zaken die achter de schermen deze operatie mogelijk hebben gemaakt. Er is letterlijk dag en nacht doorgewerkt om in samenwerking met elkaar en met internationale partners de mensen te evacueren.”

De 8e militaire evacuatievlucht is vanavond vertrokken uit Soedan. Een C-130 Hercules transportvliegtuig vliegt op dit moment naar Jordanië. Na deze extra evacuatievlucht wordt de Nederlandse bijdrage aan de luchtbrug om mensen uit het Afrikaanse land te halen gestopt.

Met de laatste militaire vlucht komt een einde aan een reeks evacuatievluchten uit het door oorlog geteisterde Soedan. De meeste Nederlanders van wie bij Buitenlandse Zaken bekend is dat ze in Soedan waren, hebben inmiddels het land verlaten. Dat gebeurde via deze militaire vluchten of die van partnerlanden.

Evacués
In totaal zijn er ten minste 160 Nederlanders geëvacueerd uit Soedan, meer dan 85 van hen met de vliegtuigen van de luchtmacht. Andere Nederlanders konden meevliegen met vluchten van andere Europese landen. Op de Nederlandse vluchten zijn ook circa 130 evacués meegenomen van 18 andere nationaliteiten.

WASHINGTON, April 26, 2023 – The State Department has made a determination approving a possible Foreign Military Sale to the Government of Norway of sustainment and services for C-130J aircraft beyond Block 6 through 2028 and related equipment for an estimated cost of $166 million. The Defense Security Cooperation Agency delivered the required certification notifying Congress of this possible sale today.

The Government of Norway has requested continued sustainment and associated services for four (4) C-130J aircraft beyond Block 6 through 2028. Included are Joint Mission Planning Systems (JMPS); aircraft components, spare parts, consumables, and accessories; repair and return support; aircraft support and support equipment; unclassified publications and technical documentation; software delivery and support; unclassified Computer Program Identification Number (CPIN) systems; telecommunications support; minor modifications, maintenance and maintenance support; U.S. Government and contractor engineering, technical, and logistics support services; and other related elements of logistical and program support. The estimated total cost is $166 million.

This proposed sale will support the foreign policy goals and national security objectives of the United States by improving the security of a NATO Ally that is a force for political stability and economic progress in Europe.

The proposed sale will improve Norway’s capability to meet current and future threats by bolstering operational readiness while enhancing air and defense capabilities with a modernized fleet. Norway already has C-130Js and will have no difficulty absorbing these articles and services into its armed forces.

The proposed sale of this equipment and support will not alter the basic military balance in the region.

The principal contractor will be Lockheed Martin, Marietta, GA. The purchaser typically requests offsets. Any offset agreement would be defined in negotiations between the purchaser and the contractor.

Implementation of this proposed sale will not require the assignment of any additional U.S. Government or contractor representatives to Norway.

There will be no adverse impact on U.S. defense readiness as a result of this proposed sale.

This notice of a potential sale is required by law. The description and dollar value are for the highest estimated quantity and dollar value based on initial requirements. Actual dollar value will be lower depending on final requirements, budget authority, and signed sales agreement(s), if and when concluded.
