Support to Papua New Guinea
With our eyes in the sky and our people on the ground, we’ve been working hard to assess damage and deliver humanitarian aid stores to communities in Papua New Guinea and the Autonomous Region of Bougainville hit hard by Tropical Cyclone Maila.
When the request first came from the Government of Papua New Guinea last week, our Royal New Zealand Air Force P-8A Poseidon carried out surveillance flights to provide authorities with imagery of the damage.
This informed authorities of what disaster relief stores were required and where, before our Deployable Joint Interagency Task Force joined forces with the Papua New Guinea Defence Force (PNGDF), National Disaster Centre, New Zealand Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade, Australian Defence Force, International Organisation for Migration (IOM) and the Mission Aviation Fellowship (MAF) to deliver over 13,607 kgs of stores made up of food, tarpaulins, generators, chainsaws, agriculture tool kits, shelter tool kits, mother and infant kits and family hygiene kits to Milne Bay, Bougainville and East New Britain using our C-130J aircraft.
Over the coming days, our NH90 helicopters will work alongside the PNGDF Air Transport Wing and Provincial Disaster Centres to deliver stores to isolated communities.
We stand ready to assist our Pacific whanau in times of need.

Babak Taghvaee – The Crisis Watch
The U.S. has launched a large-scale search & evacuation operation for the crew of an F-15E Strike Eagle reportedly shot down this morning in western Iran. Massive assets involved: multiple HH-60G Pave Hawk CSAR helicopters, HC-130J Combat King II tankers, F-35 escorts, A-10 Warthogs for top cover, and MQ-9 Reapers. Situation developing rapidly.

Work on the Turkish Air Force’s C-130J Super Hercules fleet is progressing at pace, with several of the 12 aircraft in our hangars simultaneously.
We were delighted to show this progress to our customer directly last week, welcoming Brigadier General Volkan Ersun Acar (Director, 2nd Air Maintenance Factory) and Lieutenant Colonel Halis Can Polat (Manager, Depot Level Maintenance Factory) to our Cambridge headquarters.
A highlight of the tour: our dedicated C-130J centre wing box replacement facility, where our guests were able to view one of their aircraft after its centre wing box had been removed. For most operators, it’s quite rare to view a C-130 in this state, since line maintenance seldom involves the aircraft’s primary structure.
We’re very grateful to Brigadier General Acar and Lieutenant Colonel Polat for their visit, and look forward to continuing our work together as we proceed with the programme.
