{"id":1547,"date":"2023-06-08T21:43:06","date_gmt":"2023-06-08T21:43:06","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/c-130herculesvrienden.nl\/?p=1547"},"modified":"2023-06-08T21:43:06","modified_gmt":"2023-06-08T21:43:06","slug":"raf-hercules-marks-the-completion-of-operations-with-flypast","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/c-130herculesvrienden.nl\/?p=1547","title":{"rendered":"RAF Hercules marks the completion of operations with flypast"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h2><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>An RAF Hercules has marked the completion of operations by the transport aircraft from RAF Akrotiri with a flypast over the Cyprus station.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.raf.mod.uk\/index.cfm\/_api\/asset\/image\/?filePath=\/raf-beta\/assets\/Image\/76E736EC-768E-4502-80BA707EC20EFE2B-Last%20flight%20of%20the%20Herc%20C130%20RAF%20Akrotiri_ReferenceImage_m28057.jpg\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>The last operational Hercules flight took place at 1000 on 4 June 23, when 47 Squadron flew from RAF Akrotiri to RAF Brize Norton. Deputy Commander Operations Air Marshal Harvey Smyth gave a speech at the parade praising the proud history of the aircraft before boarding, along with the current members of 47 Sqn, for the return flight.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.raf.mod.uk\/index.cfm\/_api\/asset\/image\/?filePath=\/raf-beta\/assets\/Image\/5D1B74E8-C045-4005-952A4AD67DE1656B-26ae9a95-64b3-42a9-84b8-2fd86d6c9126.jpeg\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Group Captain Simon Cloke, RAF Akoritiri Station Commander and former Hercules pilot gave the final salute at the ceremony. He said \u201cI\u2019m not going to lie there was a little bit of dust in the eye during the event, it\u2019s a great honour and privilege for the station.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote\">\n<p>&nbsp;It\u2019s been in service for 56 years and it\u2019s spent the majority of that time flying in and out of Cyprus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Wing Commander Richard Fawkes,<br>903 Expeditionary Air Wing&nbsp;Commanding Officer<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.raf.mod.uk\/index.cfm\/_api\/asset\/image\/?filePath=\/raf-beta\/assets\/Image\/9C0F8CF8-8EA3-4B76-84EAFA0D7A148270-Last%20flight%20of%20the%20Herc%20C130%20RAF%20Akrotiri_ReferenceImage_m28058.jpg\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Squadron Leader Kenny Bracken is the Air Mobility detachment commander at RAF Akrotiri, who has spent 10 years on the Hercules as both an operator and training instructor at RAF Brize Norton. He said, \u201cToday is a momentous occasion, the Herc has been involved in operations all around the world, it\u2019s been a highlight of my career to fly the Herc.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.raf.mod.uk\/index.cfm\/_api\/asset\/image\/?filePath=\/raf-beta\/assets\/Image\/947A63E3-16B2-4BCD-B7770AD4BB24A50D-Last%20flight%20of%20the%20Herc%20C130%20RAF%20Akrotiri_ReferenceImage_m28056.jpg\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>The Atlas C1 fleet, which has been operating alongside Hercules for some time including assisting with the evacuation of civilians from Afghanistan and Sudan, will now deliver Tactical airlift in support of operations.
