PHILIPPINE AIR FORCE C-130 HERCULES AIRMEN RESCUE MISSION AT SAIGON, SOUTH VIETNAM

 
On April 30, 1975, the Communist North Vietnamese army entered Saigon, the capital city of South Vietnam, as the last Americans evacuated. The surrender of South Vietnam ended the decades-long war and signaled the reunification of North and South Vietnam.
Prior to the fall of South Vietnam, the Philippine Air Force L-100-20s Lockheed C-130 Hercules (Stretched versions of the C-130 Hercules) were dispatched to South Vietnam for the emergency evacuation of Philippine Embassy Personnel and other Filipino nationals.
The Philippine Air Force C-130 L-100s Hercules arrived at Tan Son Nhut Airport on 28 April 1975 to perform the operation. The airlifted Philippine embassy personnel, four vehicles (2 sedans, 1 station wagon and 1 jeep).

When the Philippine Air Force made a major leap in airlift capability, the 222nd Airlift Squadron of the 220th Airlift Wing made a wide range of operational missions in both peace and war situations in the Philippines and overseas.
Philippine Air Force C-130 Hercules military medium lift turboprop aircraft with the white and haze gray paint scheme that was taken in the 70s.
All the three (3) earlier C-130H were purchased brand new in the 70s and the five (5) L100-20 Lockheed C-130 Hercules were loaned to the Philippine Aerospace Development Corporation (PADC) and then leased to PAF.
These brand new C-130s were acquired in the 70s under the term of then President Ferdinand Marcos Sr. to uplift the airlift wing capability of the Philippine Air Force.
